Fr. Ethan Bio

The Rev'd Ethan Alexander Jewett, SCP was raised in Tampa, Florida in the Conservative branch of Judaism and found a home in the Episcopal Church in 2004 after a twenty-year hiatus from organized religion. He was captivated by Christianity’s rootedness in the Hebrew Scriptures, the Gospel’s unfolding story of redemption, and Jesus’s preferential concern for the poor and marginalized in society.

Fr. Ethan received his BA from Kalamazoo College (MI) and his MA from the University of Chicago, both in French Literature. After college, he was awarded a Fulbright teaching fellowship at the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye outside of Paris. Fr. Ethan later received his Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary and his Diploma in Anglican Studies from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.

Since his ordination to the priesthood in 2012, he has served three congregations in the Episcopal Church:
Curate of St. Clement's, Philadelphia (2012-2013); Interim Rector of Grace, Chicago (2015-2106); and Rector of St. Helena's, Burr Ridge (IL) (2017-2022).

In addition to his vocation as a priest, Fr. Ethan has a long career as a nonprofit executive. He spent twelve years at the American Academy of Pediatrics, first conducting public policy, research, and advocacy as Senior Health Policy Analyst (1999-2009) and later directing governance operations as Director of Executive Services (2013-2015). In December 2020, Fr. Ethan became the Executive Director/CEO of Corazón Community Services in Cicero, IL, and in July 2022 the Executive Director of DMAX Foundation in the Philadelphia area.

Fr. Ethan has embodied a strong commitment to health and wellness throughout his life. As a lifelong bodybuilder, he fulfilled a life goal in 2019 and earned his personal trainer certification through the American Council on Exercise. Although he no longer has time to train clients, Fr. Ethan continues to offer fitness content on social media and loves to cycle, kayak and lift weights at the gym.
